The Division of Continuing Professional Development UBC Faculty of Medicine
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is defined as the education of physicians following completion of formal training. CPD consists of any educational activity which helps to maintain, develop or increase knowledge, problem-solving, technical skills or professional performance standards all with the goal that physicians can provide better health care. CPD includes 'formal' activities, e.g. courses, conferences and workshops, as well as self-directed activities such as preceptorship and directed reading.
The UBC Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD) is the office of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of British Columbia that has responsibility for continuing professional education for the practicing physicians in British Columbia. UBC CPD consists of an educational unit and a research unit.
Administratively, the UBC CPD is led by the Associate Dean of Professional Development, Dr. Gisèle Bourgeois-Law and Assistant Dean of CPD, Dr. Bob Bluman. The UBC CPD team has 20 full and part-time staff persons and 5 faculty associates. Please take the time to go through our website and learn about the multitude of programs offered by UBC CPD and the current areas of research. Details on our team members can be found here.
Our office strives to maintain the highest standards of service for our program participants. In order to ensure that our office is meeting the highest standards, we have developed some policies that govern our activities. Please see our Policies section for specific details. Please note that some policies do not apply to specific research projects undertaken by our office as these activities are governed by separate UBC policies.
