Maintenance of Certification Section 1 Credit
(Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada - for Specialists)

To be approved as an accredited group-learning activity, each activity must be planned or co-developed by a physician organization and reviewed by a Royal College accredited provider to ensure the activity:

  • has been developed by a planning committee representative of the target audience, after conducting a needs assessment
  • has learning objectives (for the overall program and each session) defined according to the learning needs of participants and are provided prior to the program
  • achieves defined learning objectives (for the overall program and each session)
  • at least 25% of the total time comprised of interactive learning
  • includes a participant evaluation of the learning objectives
  • meets the UBC CPD Commercial Support Guidelines and all the ethical requirements as defined by the CMA code of ethics governing physicians and pharmaceutical industry.

Mainpro-M1 Credit
(For Physician Members of the College of Family Physicians of Canada)

To qualify for approval of Mainpro-M1 study credits, the following conditions must be met:

  • There must be a UBC CPD or UBC Faculty of Medicine member, who is agreeable to be our representative and needs to be significantly involved in the planning, organization, development and implementation of the program as stipulated by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Responsibilities include ensuring the program meets the Mainpro-M1 accreditation standards, UBC CPD Commercial Support Guidelines and conducting an audit of the program for submission to UBC CPD one month following the program;
  • At least one College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) member who resides in the region and province and has substantial input into the program;
  • The educational content is relevant to family medicine;
  • Learning objectives are defined according to the learning needs of participants and are provided prior to the program;
  • Organizers provide specific instructions to speakers regarding their involvement;
  • The format and environment is appropriate for learning;
  • Participants will have an opportunity to evaluate the program;
  • The planning, content, and conduct of the program follow acceptable ethical standards, including UBC CPD Commercial Support Guidelines.

American Medical Association PRA Category 1 Credit
(For American Physicians)

To be designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, educational activities must:

  • present content appropriate in depth and scope for a physician
  • address demonstrated educational needs
  • communicate a clearly identified educational purpose and/or objectives
  • use learning methodologies and format(s) appropriate to the activity’s educational purpose and/or objectives
  • meets the UBC CPD Commercial Support Guidelines and all the ethical requirements as defined by the CMA code of ethics governing physicians and pharmaceutical industry.
