Conference Overview:
Join us for the 8th Annual St. Paul’s Emergency Medicine Update—voted by 97% of participants as “more fun than stealing Sidney Crosby’s Olympic gloves!” Four exciting days of learning, networking and of course, recreation! Last year more than 300 people attended this meeting, so don’t miss out this year! This course will be of interest to ANY physician providing Emergency Care: Rural to urban; part-time to full-time; residents to seasoned veterans, as well as Emergency Nurses and Paramedics. This course was designed to allow physicians to acquire and review their skills in essential life-saving emergency procedures including:

access in Adults

Before the course, the students will have access to web-based learning modules. These online modules will include videos, animations, powerpoint lectures, and select articles from the literature that demonstrate the cognitive aspects of performing the procedure. Students will complete this self-directed learning at their convenience, before arriving for the one-day hands-on procedure lab and human patient simulator sessions. Finally, the students will have the opportunity to integrate performance of these procedures into the real-time resuscitation of a critically ill patient using the latest Human Patient Simulator technology to create realistic scenarios. This course is open to non-conference delegates.

The EDE 2 Course is an advanced emergency ultrasound course that will take the advanced practitioner to the next level. EDE 2 has been created by a team of over a dozen editors, authors, and translators from across the country. Although it brings you new indications, EDE 2 retains the principles of the original EDE course including chapters and power point presentations that stick to the essentials, an emphasis on learning image generation, and the straightforward and safe incorporation of EDE into clinical practice. Now in its third year, this intense, one day program focuses explicitly on advanced vascular access & the management of critically ill, hypotensive patients. It is designed to be interactive and consists of a combination of lectures and small group, hands on sessions using simulation mannequins. By the end of the day, participants should have mastered not only the motor skill of central line insertion, but also the “where, when, why and how’s” of caring for critically ill patients. APLS: The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Course

Designed to train participants to assess and manage critically ill or injured children during the first hours in the emergency department. This course requires pre-course work involving 6 OPTIONAL online modules which cost US $15 each to complete. These modules need to be completed only for AAP and ACEP certificates. If you choose not to complete them, a certificate will still be be provided. Participation also involves key didactic sessions and skill station modules. Each participant must then successfully complete the new APLS Course Completion Examination. Please note that the one day course is recommended for recertification. This course is open to non-conference delegates.

Accreditation:
The University of British Columbia Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD) is fully accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) to provide study credits for continuing medical education for physicians. As well, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education of the United States (ACCME) maintains a reciprocity relationship with CACMS which the American Medical Association (AMA) recognizes for the purpose of allowing Canadian medical schools the ability to certify activities for AMA PRA Category 1 credits and to award such credits to eligible physicians. This program has been reviewed and approved by the UBC Division of Continuing Professional Development. UBC CPD designates this educational program as meeting the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada for up to 16.5 MAINPRO M1 credits. This program is an Accredited Group Learning Activity eligible for up to 16.5 Section 1 credits as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. This program also meets the accreditation criteria for a maximum of 16.5 Category 1 credits toward the American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award.
