Conference Overview:
APLS: THE PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY MEDICINE COURSE - Limit 24 participants (Approximate times: Thursday: 1200—1630, Friday 0800—1700 at CESEI, VGH) This course is designed to train physicians to assess and manage critically ill children during the first hours in the emergency department. Participants will take part in a two-day format of skills stations and case discussion sessions. Participants must then successfully complete the APLS course Completion Examination. Please note that this course is intended for experienced clinicians involved in care of critically-ill children. Participants are recommended to have previously completed at least one PALS or APLS course successfully.
ACLS: PROVIDER UPDATE COURSE - Limit 24 participants (Approximate time: 0800—1530 at the Gordon & Leslie Diamond Healthcare Centre) The ACLS Provider Course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and asystole), four types of prearrest emergencies (bradychardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke. The one-day update course is intended for experienced clinicians who have previously completed at least one ACLS course successfully. As much as possible, resuscitation simulations, which are relevant and realistic for the learner’s background and current work environment, are used.
