Workshop Overview:
This workshop is for physicians who work with dementia patients from an Iranian culture. This populations was chosen, as there is a known delay reporting dementia due to cultural beliefs. This two-hour interactive workshop will be led by a specialist facilitator who is well versed in providing dementia care to Iranian patients. The workshop will be delivered to a small group of physicians who work with Iranian patients in an informal environment (over dinner) in order to allow for dialogue surrounding case management. The workshop syllabus consists of one case, which spans the continuum of the disease progression. The case covers the following topics: clinical criteria for diagnosing Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), role of medications for MCI management, pharmacotherapy, cholinesterase inhibitors, appropriate treatments for behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, and end of life care.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Provide better care to patients with dementia from Iranian culture.
2. List and assess patient specific clinical criteria required to differentiate and diagnose Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and dementia.
3. Determine the role of medications in the management of MCI and dementia
4. Understand when initiation, discontinuation, or switching of cholinesterase inhibitors is appropriate.
5. Develop appropriate assessments and treatment recommendations for delirium and behavioural and psychological symptoms (BPSD) associated with dementia.
