This workshop is for physicians who work with dementia patients from a South Asian culture. This populations was chosen, as there is a known delay reporting dementia due to cultural beliefs. This
two-hour interactive workshop will be led by a specialist facilitator who is well versed in providing dementia care to South Asian patients. The workshop will be delivered to a small group of physicians who work with South Asian patients in an
informal environment (over dinner) in order to allow for dialogue surrounding case management.
The workshop syllabus consists of one case, which spans the continuum of the disease progression. The case covers the following topics: clinical criteria for diagnosing Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), role of medications for MCI management, pharmacotherapy, cholinesterase inhibitors, appropriate treatments for behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, and end of life care.
