UBC Rural Continuing Professional Development (RCPD)

Approximately 1 in 5 British Columbians lives in a rural or remote setting; however, this population is under-served by the BC health care system. Family physicians working in rural British Columbia are often faced with medical challenges that require a broad range of clinical skills, and they have to provide those skills without specialist back-up.

Since 2008, the UBC Rural Continuing Professional Development Program (RCPD) has been working with the support of the
Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc) to develop innovative educational programming to support the diverse and unique learning needs of rural physicians and allied health care professionals. RCPD Word Cloud

The RCPD Program has developed and delivered a variety of community-based courses, workshops, videoconference rounds, and online learning opportunities for rural practitioners. Our educational offerings are tailored to the specific needs of the rural community, and are designed to encourage relationship-building in the medical community and ultimately contribute to increased professional satisfaction.

The RCPD Program is supported by a Medical Advisory Committee made up of rural health care practitioners and other key stakeholders who provide input and strategic direction for all RCPD activities. This committee is led by RCPD Medical Director Dr. Tandi Wilkinson.
